This Privacy Policy describes how Upmatches ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use the Upmatches mobile app (the "App").
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information directly from you when you create an account or use the App:
- Account information — your name, phone number, and email address (if you sign in with Apple and choose to share your email, or if you provide one).
- Profile information — your selected sports, skill levels, and optional avatar.
- Location — when you grant permission, we use your device's location to show you games near you. We use only "When in Use" location and do not collect background location.
- Game activity — the games you create, join, host, or share inside the App, including remarks and titles you author.
- Calendar — when you tap "Add to Calendar", we write the game event to your local calendar via Apple's Calendar API. We do not read your existing calendar entries.
- Push notification token — to deliver reminders and game updates. You can disable this in Settings or in iOS Settings -> Notifications.
- Device-level diagnostics — we may collect anonymized crash and performance data to fix bugs.
We do NOT collect:
- Health, financial, or biometric information.
- Browsing or search history outside the App.
- Photos from your library, unless you explicitly upload an avatar.
- Contacts from your phone book.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide the core service — show you nearby games, let you join or host games, and notify you of updates.
- Authenticate you — via Sign in with Apple or phone-number SMS one-time codes.
- Maintain trust and safety — investigate reports of abuse, enforce our Terms of Use, and prevent fraud.
- Improve the App — analyze aggregated, non-identifying patterns to make the App better.
We do NOT use your information to:
- Show you ads inside or outside the App.
- Track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Sell or rent your information to data brokers.
- Train third-party AI models.
3. How We Share Information
- With other Upmatches users — your display name, avatar, skill levels, and games you've joined are visible to players considering your or their game.
- With our service providers — Apple (Sign in with Apple, push notifications), SMS providers (phone OTP delivery), and our cloud hosting provider. These parties process information solely on our behalf and are bound by contract.
- With law enforcement — only when legally required, and we will challenge overly broad requests where appropriate.
We do NOT sell your personal information.
4. Your Choices and Rights
- Access / export — email us to request a copy of your data.
- Correction — edit your profile in the App, or email us.
- Deletion — Settings -> Account -> Delete account triggers a hard delete of your profile and linked data within 30 days. Some logs may be retained for fraud prevention or legal compliance.
- Permissions — toggle Location, Calendar, and Notification access at any time in iOS Settings -> Upmatches.
- Marketing — we do not send marketing email or push.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have additional rights under the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection). To exercise them, email support@upmatches.com. The legal basis for our processing is performance of the contract you enter into when you create an account, and our legitimate interests in operating the App and keeping it safe.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA / CPRA (know, delete, correct, opt-out of sale or sharing). Upmatches does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Email support@upmatches.com to exercise other rights.
5. Children
Upmatches is intended for users aged 4 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children below that age. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
6. Data Retention
- Account data: kept while your account exists. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Authentication logs: kept up to 12 months for fraud prevention.
- Game records: kept while your account exists, then anonymized.
7. International Transfers
We process information in Singapore. If you're outside that country, your information will be transferred there. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EU/UK.
8. Security
We use HTTPS / TLS for all data in transit, encrypt credentials at rest, and limit internal access to your data on a need-to-know basis. No system is perfectly secure; if we discover a breach affecting you, we will notify you as required by law.
9. Changes to This Policy
We will post material changes here with a new "Last updated" date. If the changes are significant, we will notify you in the App.
